About Us

How We Began

GGGV was created by blending the passions of Phyllis Dillinger and Rachel Higgs. This venture to help the aging community has been a life fulfilling dream for Phyllis. She has been in the nonprofit sector for the past fifteen years as a Board Member and Executive. She has been helping meet the needs of people 65 years and older for the past six years. She has led the charge in donating millions of dollars to successfully help implement programs and services for the aging community.

Rachel’s passion to bring the lesbian community together drove her to create a Facebook group for lesbians only. Realizing that the lesbian community has unique needs, her passion for community outreach, creating social and networking events, marketing, and fundraisers specifically for this community has made her Facebook group grow to 2600 plus local members in two short years.

These two individual talents came together to create the Golden Gay Girls Villages. Once the decision was made to move forward, they secured GGGVs approved incorporation in the State of Delaware as well as tax exempt status from the IRS.

To further substantiate the needs for this community, Rachel used her Facebook group to survey what her members deemed important and/or missing in their community. She and Phyllis then devised a list of programs and services to begin meeting those needs and others.
